Frequently Asked Questions
(and their answers)
Are you wondering about all of the pieces of the senior portrait process? Are you nervous that you won't be prepared? Are you wanting to make sure you don't miss anything? Most people come to us with a lot of questions and we are here to help! Below are some of the questions and concerns we hear most often and their answers. If you would like to chat with us after reading these over, please don't hesitate to contact us!
“DO I HAVE TO USE YOU FOR MY SENIOR YEARBOOK PICTURES?”
First and foremost, you need to consult your school for their yearbook requirements. If you attend Buford High School, North Forsyth High School, or Sugar Hill Christian Academy: You will need to be photographed by us in some capacity in order to appear in the yearbook.
All of our sessions include what is required for the yearbook, so it is just a matter of picking which session works best for you. If you do not attend our contracted schools, you will need to check and see what they will allow to be submitted. In all cases, we would love to be your senior portrait photographer!
“WHERE DO YOU TAKE PICTURES?”
The best way to explain this is to show you! The portraits seen in our Class of 2026 section have all be taken in and around our location in historic Downtown Buford. Click here for a gallery of examples or here for a tour of Downtown Buford.
We can also photograph you in different locations depending on what session option you select. If you are thinking of going that route, give us a call to schedule your session so that we can plan out the best time for your location of choice.
“WHAT DO I WEAR?”
We will provide what is needed for the formal yearbook portrait (i.e. a tuxedo or drape), as well as the cap and gown for our contracted schools. You will need to arrive wearing either a white undershirt (if you plan to wear the tuxedo) or a strapless shirt or spaghetti-strapped tank top (if you plan to wear the drape).
For the casual portion of the session, we recommend wearing clothing that you would normally wear, that fits you, that is representative of your current style. Resist the urge to try to be someone else in these portraits. We also include a recommended number of outfits for each session that we offer.
For cap and gown portraits, we recommend the following:
- If you will wear the tuxedo for your formal portrait, bring a button-down shirt and tie for your cap and gown portrait.
- If you will wear the drape for your formal portrait, you will need something with an open neckline for the cap and gown portrait.
“DO YOU PROVIDE MAKEUP AND/OR HAIR STYLING?”
No. We want you to look as natural as possible. However, we do recommend that you define your features and make sure your hair is on point. Some recommendations to include:
- Avoid makeup that is too "dewy". Studio lights will exaggerate shine on the face, which may result in an effect that you don't prefer. If you tend to be a bit shiny naturally, we recommend bringing powder or blotting paper with you to use prior to being photographed.
- If your hair is "frizzy" naturally, you will see it in your portraits. If that concerns you, we recommend treating your hair to minimize this.
- Avoid self-tanner or spray tanning prior to portraits. Your natural skin tone is preferred, as you should look like yourself!
Some of our clients choose to consult professionals regarding their appearance, and some do it themselves. Either way, resist the urge to over do it. Be yourself!
“CAN I BRING MY ________________?”
The answer is always YES! Cars, animals, friends, fun Pinteresty props that you made yourself, anything! Your session is yours, so bring it and we will use it! When you arrive, be sure to let us know so that we can incorporate your item into your session!
One note to consider: Weapons of any kind need to be secured and cannot be featured in the yearbook. Please let us know if you plan to bring any weapons so that we can take the proper precautions prior to your arrival.
“WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO TAKE PICTURES?”
This is somewhat subjective. However, we prefer either first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon/early evening. With that being said, we can take your portraits at any time of the day and make them turn out great.
Additionally, if you tend to get hot and sweaty easily, we recommend being photographed in June, first thing in the morning, or latest in the evening. Any of these times will help minimize the summer heat. But remember: this is Georgia and the summer is going to be hot!
“WHEN WILL I SEE MY PORTRAITS?”
Approximately three weeks after your session. You will be emailed when your portrait gallery is ready to view, so be sure to give us the best email address!
“WILL I SEE ALL OF THE PICTURES YOU TAKE?”
No - but pretty close. We only want you to see the best of the best. We will remove any that do not meet our technical standards, any that are unflattering, or any that are repetitious. We plan the number of poses we photograph to the type of session selection, so keep in mind that a longer session will yield more proofs to view.
“WHAT DOES BASIC RETOUCHING INCLUDE?”
Basic retouching is NOT included in proof galleries. However, it IS included with every order (print or digital). It includes removal of blemishes, small imperfections, or unnatural shine. We will also brighten your teeth if necessary. Stray hair, braces, background changes, or other specialty retouching is not included and will incur a fee per image.
